With this essay, I intend to show that Paradise was a real and tangible place for the believing medieval Christian. Paradise is, as states it, “heaven, as the final abode of the righteous.” This is especially true for the medieval Christians, who believed that “to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God” For the medieval Christian, paradise (or heaven) was a real place, and a real place could be described and imagined. In understanding the concept of paradise one can better understand the belief systems of the culture in study because it is often at the center of why they believe. ![]() It crosses almost every culture, and shows up in nearly every religion. ![]() ![]() Paradise is a concept that has been shared by humanity, in some form or another, throughout history.
